A Desert Beach
By Peter Olsen

I have a big sandbox. It's about 10 feet wide and 14 feet long. It is in the shade under a wooden deck.

My family goes to California on our vacations. I love the ocean and the beach. I like to play in the waves and build sand castles.

When I find sea shells, I bring them home to put in my sandbox. A little bit of sand from places like Oceanside, Pismo Beach, and Newport Beach is mixed in there, too.

I have pails, shovels, rakes, and trucks in my sand. I put water in it to make rivers, lakes, mountains, volcanoes, and castles.

I miss the ocean. But my sandbox lets me remember my time at the beach.
