    Children and the Internet

At Arizona Edventures we encourage interactivity in learning, while at the same time we strive to ensure the online safety and privacy of our visitors. We encourage parents and teachers to stay involved and in control of children's internet explorations.

    Internet Use Agreements

    Parent's Pledge

    1. I will learn about the online programs and services that my child uses. If I don't know how to use them, I will ask my child to show me how.

    2. I will familiarize myself with the websites that my child visits and will look at them together with my child, to make the Internet more of a family activity.

    3. I will set reasonable rules and guidelines for my children's computer use and will post these rules near the computer as a reminder.

    4. I will decide upon the time of day that my children can be online, the length of time they can be online, and appropriate areas for them to visit.

    5. I will remember to monitor their compliance with these rules, especially when it comes to the amount of time they spend on the computer.

    6. I will respond quickly if my child tells me about a problem or concern that he or she is has while on the Internet.

    7. I will not use the computer or Internet as an electronic babysitter.

    8. I will keep the Internet-enabled computer in a family room if possible and not provide Internet access on computers in bedrooms.

    9. I will try get to know my child's online friends just as I try get to know his or her other friends.

    10. I will discuss these rules with my children and get each child to agree to adhere to the following pledge.

    Children's Pledge

    1. I promise to be online only during the times, days, and for the length of time my parents and I agreed to set aside for using the internet.

    2. I will adhere to my parents' rules and guidelines when going online, including the areas I am allowed to visit. I will not access any other areas or break these rules without their permission. This includes going to new chat rooms and websites not previously approved by my parents.

    3. I will always tell a parent or another adult immediately if I come across any information that makes me feel uncomfortable, if I see any bad language or pictures on the Internet, if someone makes me feel nervous or uncomfortable online, or if anything seems scary or threatening.

    4. I will never give out any identifying information such as my full name, home address, telephone number, school name or location, parents' workplace or schedule, or any other personal information on the Internet without my parents' approval. I will never give out my computer password to anyone other than my parents - not even to my best friend!

    5. I will not respond online to any messages that are mean, use bad words, sound weird or threatening. If I get that kind of message, I will tell an adult immediately so they can contact the service provider or appropriate agency. If I'm ever uncomfortable in a live chat room, I will log out immediately.

    6. I will never have a face-to-face meeting with anyone I've met online. In rare cases my parents may decide it's okay, but then it will only be in a public place with a parent or guardian present.

    7. I will not go into an online area that is going to cost money without first asking permission, and I will never give out a credit card number online without a parent present.

    8. I will never send a picture or anything else over the Internet, or to anyone via postal (snail) mail, without my parent's permission.

    9. I will ignore any "get rich quick" offers or requests for money, since these are often untrue and illegal.

    10. I will be a good online citizen and not do anything that hurts people or is against the law.
