The Knowledge House Learning Resource Center is made possible through the cooperative efforts of many individuals, including:
A Note from Teri I would like to personally thank the other people on this page for their help in starting up this resource center. I’m a writer and librarian, not a people person. I prefer to work behind the scenes. My passion is in gathering information and collecting books, which is why I'm serving as Librarian/Resource Coordinator. Helene Charles, our Workshop/Event Coordinator, complements me perfectly in this endeavor. She has a remarkable ability of knowing how to go about contacting potential speakers, vendors, and publishers all over the state (and even out of state!) and getting them to come out here or donate materials to us. I think Helene will single-handedly put the New River homeschool community on the map! Susan Kimsey, our Church Liaison and wife of Pastor Rick, has been extremely generous in allowing us to utilize the facilities at Crossroads Christian Fellowship. We would never have been able to set up this resource center without them! We are also glad to have Margaret Bradley-Simard as our standardized Testing Coordinator, offering her skills as an educational consultant/certified tester combined with her understanding of homeschoolers. The Knowledge House Learning Resource Center seemed to come together on its own, with no prior planning on our part. It all started when I was trying to think of a community service project to do for Make a Difference Day back in October 2002. At the time, I was tripping over boxes of books in our school room, because I had run out of space on my bookshelves, so that's when I had the idea of creating a homeschool section in the church library. Coincidentally, a few days later, Helene mentioned that she was having trouble finding places to hold her workshops. Then Margaret came along and was wishing that she had a more convenient location for holding standardized testing for the local homeschool groups, and she needed a building with several different rooms. After speaking with Susan at Crossroads Christian Fellowship (then called Desert Valley Baptist Church), everything kind of fell into place for having a homeschool resource center there.
A special thanks to the Knowledge House Learning Resource Center's Founding Members (January 2003)
Your enthusiasm and support for this venture when we were first starting out meant a lot to us!
