An Inspired Idea If you have a child who struggles with dyslexia and/or dysgraphia (reading/ writing difficulties), you should get the Unblocked! Dysgraphia Workbook, by Eve and Stone Engelbrite. Eve Engelbrite is an Arizona certified teacher for grades K-8. She taught and tutored in public and private schools for ten years. She wrote the curriculum for Alpha Omega's "Color Phonics" program, which addresses the needs of dyslexics as well as those with speech and hearing difficulties. Her husband, Michael Peter "Stone" Engelbrite, was a developer of the Switched-on Schoolhouse multimedia learning software. Unblocked! contains letter-box grids onto which dysgraphic students trace and copy straight-line letters and numerals, with no curves. It begins with single letters and words, and progresses to sentences and then to Bible verses. This version is directed toward a parent to use at home with their child. They also have a clinical version with quotations from Aesop to Shakespeare, so the student can also learn a bit of history. In addition, Eve Engelbrite wrote the Arithmability Dyscalculia Workbook: Addition and Subtraction of Whole Numbers. This workbook was designed for students aged six and above who have physical disabilities requiring larger print and larger space to write in, as well as those who have cognitive disabilities. They may have a combination of dyslexia, dysgraphia, and mental math block. This workbook overcomes these obstacles so that students can demonstrate the ability to do arithmetic. The Engelbrites originally designed these workbooks for their homeschooled son, and their use greatly increased his lettering and numbering confidence and ability. These books work well for other children, too. For more information, to see sample pages, read related articles, or to place an order, visit the Inspired Idea website at www.inspiredidea.com.
