Overcoming Homeschool Hurdles
By Kelly Maynard Whenever we start a new homeschool year, I write up a list of goals I want to accomplish. My list often contains the same goals I was shooting for the previous year, and sometimes, even the year before that. When I look at this list, I get a little discouraged. I wonder if I will ever overcome in a particular area. Sometimes I feel so overwhelmed I feel I'm barely keeping my head above water. Do you ever feel this way? I don't know about you, but I feel like a runner in a race; I have many hurdles in my path. Some of the hurdles I am able to skim right over, while other hurdles bring me down hard. I have skinned knees and elbows. I find myself looking back over my shoulder, and I see many downed hurdles. When I see these downed hurdles it makes me want to quit the race. It makes me want to admit defeat. Oh how Satan loves to have us "look back" and see only our failures! I am reminded of what it says in Hebrews chapter 12, "Let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which so easily ensnares us, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us, looking unto Jesus, the author and finisher of our faith." When I get discouraged, it is because I have gotten my eyes off of Jesus and on to the circumstances. Discouragement is always PAST oriented. If the enemy can't get me to worry about the future, he will try to get me to regret the past. I want to proclaim to you all: Satan is a defeated foe! I have purposed in my heart to run "with endurance" the race that is set before me. I will to keep my eyes steadfast upon Jesus. I cannot change the past. I leave it in the hands of the Lord. Today is the day given to us by the Lord for His service. Kelly Maynard is a homeschooling mother of 3 and a former leader of Desert Hills Christian Homeschoolers.
